Best Ryanair Hand Luggage Bag [2019 Update]
Another six months goes by and Ryanair have yet again changed their baggage allowance.
You don’t quite need a PhD to understand the changes, but a squeaky-clean pair of eyeballs and a tape measure is a minimum requirement.
So, let’s give you what you came for.
The latest changes, as of {December 2018} state that unless you purchase an add-on with your flight purchase, the maximum size hand luggage you can bring onto the plane without incurring any extra charges is 40cm x 25cm x 20cm.
For our international friends, that’s 15.75 x 9.84 x 7.87 inches.
Bear in mind that you can now only bring on board 1 piece of luggage with the given measurements above.
Up until November 2018, you were allowed TWO pieces – one measuring a maximum of 55 x 40 x 25 and a smaller sized 35 x 20 x 15. What then happened on a regular occurrence is that the larger sized free hand luggage would get put into the hold section (free of charge) once you were at the boarding gate.
What changes did Ryanair make?
As of November 2018, Ryanair changed their tack and as it stands right now, you can only bring on board one piece of luggage measuring 40cm x 25cm x 20cm.
That’s it. Nada mas.
You can see what Ryanair are trying to do, right?
You can purchase an add-on during the flight purchase for about 5 or 6 euros (4 or 5 pounds), which allowed you to bring on board a bag measuring up to 55 x 40 x 25 {CHECK} and weighing up to 8kg.
If you didn’t buy this upon ticket purchase and wanted to add it to your flight at a later date, the price would go up by a couple of euros/pounds. This is assuming there is enough space in the carry-on luggage above the seats. Ryanair would only allow this for about 55% of the seats sold i.e. this option is capped.
Alternatively, you can buy a standard 10kg bag option and put it into the hold. The bag would need to measure a maximum of 55cm x 45cm x 25 cm and comes with a cost of 10 euros / 10 pounds {CHECK}.
So, we’re going to break it down as follows:
- The best Ryanair hand luggage for up to 7kg, measuring 40 x 25 x 20cm
- The best Ryanair hand luggage for up to 8kg, measuring 55 x 40 x 25cm
- The best Ryanair hold luggage for up to 10kg, measuring 55 x 40 x 25cm
